Kid’s Ice Fishing Event To Be Held Saturday (Jan. 11th)

January 06, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Ruthven)– A kid’s ice fishing event will be held this coming Saturday, January 11th, on Lost Island Lake near Ruthven. It’s being put on by the Emmet and Palo Alto county Conservation Boards and the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club. Organizer Katelyn Steinle says it will be going on that day from 10:00 am until 12 Noon…

“We are going to be meeting at the boat ramp in our park, so it’s kind of in the northeast corner of the park. There’s a parking lot, a marsh, you can’t miss it. And kids 15 and under will get a chance at experiencing ice fishing with the help of the club and the two conservation boards will have all the equipment provided. We find all the fish in the lake and let those kids have a chance to catch their own fish. And then the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club is also donating rods and reels for the first 60 kids that sign up, they’ll get take one of those home so they can get their own fishing experiences started.”

Pre-registration is requested by contacting the Lost Island Nature Center at 712-837-4866. More information can be found at the Palo Alto County Conservation Board/Lost Island Nature Center Facebook page.
