February 24, 2026

(Hoover, Ala.)– Judge John M. Sandy of the Iowa Court of Appeals has been invited to join the faculty of the National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI) in Hoover, Alabama.

The National Computer Forensics Institute is a nationally recognized training center that provides state and local law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and judges with advanced education in digital evidence, cybercrime investigations, and the legal challenges posed by rapidly evolving technology. As a faculty member, Judge Sandy will help equip judges with the tools necessary to navigate complex questions involving search and seizure, electronic data, and emerging technologies in the courtroom. His instruction will focus on ensuring that constitutional protections remain strong while courts adapt to the realities of modern digital evidence.

Judge Sandy was appointed to the Iowa Court of Appeals in June 2024 and prior to that to the district court.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, he practiced law at Sandy Law Firm in Spirit Lake, both in criminal defense and civil litigation. He is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Law & Public Policy.
