(Spencer)—A joint investigation into a residential burglary by the Buena Vista and Clay County Sheriff’s Offices has resulted in the arrests of two people from Clay county.
The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office says it was notified of a burglary in progress around 9:00 p.m. last (Tues.) evening near Albert City. The owner had returned home to find two people trying to break into his residence. A burglary had taken place at the same location a couple of days earlier. The owner was able to detain the two suspects until deputies could arrive. A subsequent investigation resulted in a third suspect being taken into custody.
A search warrant was then executed on a residence near Webb. It resulted in authorities finding several items that had been stolen in three previous burglaries in Buena Vista county and one previous burglary in Clay county. Numerous items were seized.
45-year-old Steven Anderson of Webb was arrested and charged with burglary in the 2nd degree…a class “D” felony; and one count of burglary in the 3rd degree…also a class “D” felony.
Also arrested on the same charges was 37-year-old Mary Lawson of rural Webb.
Authorities say charges are pending in juvenile court against a 17-year-old in connection with the same incidents.
Lawson and Anderson were both booked into the Buena Vista county jail.
Also seized in the search of the residence near Webb was a large quantity of what’s alleged to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Authorities say the juvenile may face additional charges related to that.
They add that charges may also be filed against a fourth person, pending the outcome of their ongoing investigation.
