JCC Looking At Staff Reductions To Help Offset $450,000 Budget Shortfall

January 29, 2026

(Jackson, Mn.)– Declining revenue and failure to pass a funding referendum back in November has the Jackson County Central Community School District looking at possible cuts in staff. JCC Superintendent Dr. Mike Neubeck says they need to trim about $450,000 in expenditures…

“A lot of times, sometimes fees or you change some programming and so forth. Sometimes when you look at budget adjustments you’re looking at almost a re-organization because if somebody does get reduced, they have responsibilities. So who’s going to pick up those responsibilities? So that’s our job the next six weeks as administrators to be able to do that and look at those. And then on March 9th we’ll be coming to the school board with a list of adjustments and recommendations, then they’ll have a week to take a look at that and then on March 16th we’ll come back and they’ll approve that list and then at that point we’ll have to put names to positions and so forth. We’re a people organization which makes this very tough because we have great people working for us. We hate to have any reductions but also 70 percent of our budget is staff salaries and benefits and so forth. It’s hard to make those adjustments without letting people go.”

Dr. Neubeck says they’ve met with staff to make them aware of the situation.
