Jarden, Owner Of Pure Fishing, To Close Plant In Arkansas

November 22, 2014

(Fort Smith, Arkansas)– Plastics manufacturer Jarden Process Solutions in Fort Smith, Arkansas is closing and will lay off 93 workers.

The company said Tuesday that external factors, including diminished demand from Whirlpool Corporation, made the closing necessary. Whirlpool laid off another 700 workers at its Fort Smith plant last week.

The factory’s parent company, Rye, N.Y.-based Jarden Corporation, makes a wide range of products, from Shakespeare brand fishing gear to Seal-A-Meal products for the kitchen. The company’s most recent earnings report shows sales and profits are up.

Workers were told Tuesday that the Arkansas plant will close in January.

Jarden also owns Pure Fishing in Spirit Lake.
