(Jackson, Mn.)– Jackson’s new Economic Development Coordinator is getting acquainted to his new duties and introducing himself. Jack Brinkman, a native of Jackson, holds a business degree. He’s been on the job a couple of weeks or so now. He says feels he can bring a number of strong assets to the table, especially when it comes to communication…
“Running a business that’s the biggest thing, if you can just communicate with people and hey, this is going on, and it will take this much longer to get this done. As long as everyone is on the same page, I think, is the biggest thing. I’ve learned a lot in just listening, just sitting there and kind of being a sponge. Listening and kind of learning, but also knowing when to step up and say something or give my thoughts.”
Brinkman adds he brings a special perspective to the table as well…
“With me being in small business before this, I can kind of relate to our small business owners a little bit. I mean all of these small businesses are on a much higher scale that what I was but I have somewhat of an understanding. Some of the surprises that got me the most is how much behind the scenes work there is to economic development and on the city side.”
Brinkman says Jackson already has a lot of resources available when it comes to economic development and that he looks forward to building on them…
“We’re kind of blessed with having I-90 up there and then 71 going right through. We’ve had great economic developers in the past and great people with the city so hoping to maybe bring some stuff or anything in to bring more wheels in the city and keep people happy. That’s our biggest key is to keep people happy, so.”
Brinkman adds he looks forward to building on the vitality of downtown Jackson by attracting new businesses and helping existing ones with things such as storefront improvements.
