Jackson Y Collision Injures Two People, One Seriously

November 01, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Two people were injured, one seriously, in a collision late Monday afternoon involving a pickup and a semi at the intersection of Highways 9 & 71 east of Spirit Lake, or the Jackson Y.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 55-year-old Doyle Svoboda of Lakefield was driving a 2015 Freightliner semi tractor/trailer eastbound on Highway 9 when he was struck in the rear by a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup driven by 55-year-old Mark Moffitt of Gruver.

Svoboda was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with non-incapacitating injuries. Moffitt was taken by ambulance to Avera Holy Family in Estherville with serious injuries and was transferred by air to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Authorities say the collision remains under investigation.
