Jackson Motel Robbery Results In Arrests, Charges

November 22, 2014

(Jackson, Mn.)– Charges have been filed against two people from Sioux Falls in connection with a robbery that occurred earlier this month at the Super 8 Motel in Jackson. A third suspect wanted in the case remains at large.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called shortly after 5:00 a.m. September 4th to the Super 8 in Jackson. Authorities say the victim, 37-year-old Steven Konczak of Minneapolis, told a deputy he was to meet 19-year-old Taylor Frank at the motel to give her a ride to Forest Lake, Mn. As he was pulling into the motel’s parking lot, Konczak was met by Frank, her 22-year-old sister, Tatum Frank, and 19-year-old Oleg Kovik, both of Sioux Falls.

Konczak rented a room and invited all three to join him there. Once in the room, Konczak began to empty his pockets. He was then allegedly pushed onto the bed and sprayed with mace. Kovik then allegedly threatened him with brass knuckles. After being assaulted, Konczak was told not to call the police and remain in his room for 10 minutes.

Konczak reported his wallet with about $130 in cash, a debit card and his car keys had been stolen, and that his car was missing from the parking lot. A deputy located the vehicle a short time later near the motel.

Arrest warrants were then issued for Taylor Frank, Tatum Frank and Kovik. Kovik and Taylor Frank were arrested by investigators in Sioux Falls. Kovik was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and aid and advise motor vehicle theft. Taylor Frank was charged with aid and advise aggravated robbery and one count of aid and advise motor vehicle theft. They are both being held in the Minnehaha county, South Dakota jail pending extradition to Jackson county.

Tatum Frank remains at large.

The incident remains under investigation.
