(Jackson, Mn.)– The Jackson County Commissioners on Tuesday heard about a possible tax abatement plan in Jackson County to help entice housing developers. They heard testimony from a plot owner in Heron Lake that said the abatement would really help her and many others decide upon building or not building. County Administrator Ryan Krosch says Jackson would join a plethora of Southwest Minnesota counties doing the same thing…
Commissioners expressed interest in following the trend of a five year tax abatement, which would work as more of a refund than a smaller tax bill. You’d still pay the tax, but be reimbursed with a check the full amount when taxes are charged by the county.
Research is ongoing by the county on a possible program similar to what Lakefield currently offers.
