November 22, 2014

(Heron Lake, Mn.)– A collision this (Wednesday) morning involving a car and a truck at the intersection of Highway 60 and Jackson County Road 24 near Heron Lake injured four people–one seriously.

The Minnesota State Patrol says it involved a 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 33-year-old Jaime Bartalon of Worthington and a 1976 International truck driven by 78-year-old Donald Fest of Heron Lake.

Bartalon was taken to the Windom hospital for treatment of bumps and bruises; a passenger in his vehicle, 31-year-old Alejandro Cervantes-Herrera of Worthington was taken to Sanford Hospital in Worthington and was transferred to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls with head injuries. Another passenger in Bartalon’s vehicle, 19-year-old Victor Mendez of Worthington, was taken to Sanford Hospital in Worthington and was treated and released.

Fest was taken to the Windom hospital for treatment of a cut on his forehead, bumps, bruises and a fractured shoulder.

Troopers say the car driven by Bartalon was traveling southwest on Highway 60 and the truck driven by Fest, which was loaded with soybeans, was eastbound on County Road 24 when the collision took place shortly before 7:00 a.m.

The truck was totaled; moderate damage was reported to the car.

The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
