IRRMA To Hold Guitar Scholarship Fundraiser; Rock4Vets

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– A unique fundraiser for a guitar scholarship program being offered by the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association is set for this coming Saturday, November 7th from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the Wimbledon Convention Center at Arrowwood Resort in Okoboji.

The exhibit will feature guitar collections of several northwest Iowa and southern Minnesota musicians, many with interesting histories.

In addition, Route 86 Music students will perform “mini recitals”.

Profits from ticket sales from the event will be used for a scholarship program for a young person wanting to learn to play the guitar but cant take lessons due to a financial hardship. Along with the scholarship, a guitar will be donated to the recipient by the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association.

Tickets for Saturday’s event will be two dollars each and will be available at the door.

Applications for the scholarship are available by contacting the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association’s office at 338-2096 or at Route 86 Music located on the grounds of Treasure Village on Highway 86 northwest of Milford. Applicants must be 16 and under. The winner will be announced the first week in December.

The guitars will remain on display that evening at Arrowwood for the annual Rock4Vets show and dance honoring U.S. military veterans. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the event itself running from 7:00 until 10:00 p.m. All veterans will be admitted free. Tickets are five dollars each for non-veterans along with a canned good for the local food pantry. Denise Shipler and Glenn Henricksen and Friends will headline the show. Tickets for Rock4Vets will also be available at the door.
