(Arnolds Park)– Winners of the annual Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Museum Art Guitars in Schools competition have been announced.
Estherville-Lincoln Central High School received the first place artist choice award.
The guitar, honoring Estherville’s Sticks ‘n Stones band in the IRRMA Hall of Fame will remain on display at the association’s museum until next September when it will be auctioned off during the Hall of Fame Induction concert.
Second place in the artists Choice division went to Sioux City East.
All visitors to the museum this past summer voted for their favorite to win the People Choice Award and Sioux City east was the winner. The entry honoring several musicians and genres of music is on display for a year as well.
Second place, as chosen by the people, went to Jackson County Central High School in Jackson, Mn.
The contest is sponsored each year by the Gretsch Guitar Foundation of Savannah, Ga. and the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association.
The first place winning schools receive gift certificates to purchase art supplies for their respective high school art departments.
Money raised by the auction is used to pay day-to-day operations of the IRRMA Museum in Arnolds Park.
The museum is open year-round, but has cut back on its hours during the off-season. It is currently open Thursday through Saturday from Noon to 4:00 p.m.
