(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association is out with the list of inductees into its 2010 Hall of Fame. It includes 11 bands, five solo performers, three ballrooms, a disc jockey and a local radio station.
Those being named to the hall of fame from northwest Iowa include the Ski Band of Fort Dodge, the Ridotto Ballroom in the now non-existent town of Ridotto north of Pocahontas; the Upson Downs of Spirit Lake, Lockwood; Denny Hemingson; DVC and Sandage…all of Sioux City; and KUOO radio, which will be celebrating it’s 25th anniversary this year.
Inductees from southwest Iowa include Larry Lee of Council Bluffs; Elvin Bishop of Elliott; and Sparkle Moore of Council Bluffs.
Those being inducted from northeast Iowa include Rubber Band of West Union; the Mississippi Band in Dubuque and Bob Hale.
Southeast Iowa inductees include the MoJos of Grinnell; the Library Ballroom in the now non-existent town of Cou Falls south of Cedar Rapids; and TYDE of Burlington.
Central Iowa inductees include Sunday Social of Des Moines; the Riviera Ballroom in Des Moines and Sweet Nothin’ of Ames.
Also being inducted this year is an out-of-state band, “The Rising Suns” from Kansas.
This year’s recipients of the Dan Marousek Lifetime Achievement Award include James Freeman of the Five Satins of Norwalk and Dennis Albee, of Mount Pleasant.
Recipients of the Spirit Award, a brand new category for 2010, include Richie Lee of Des Moines, Norm and Jeanette Schwartz of Hinton and BB and the Bullfrogs of Spirit Lake.
Special tribute will be paid during this year’s induction ceremony to the late JP “The Big Bopper” Richardson who died in the infamous plane crash near Clear Lake nearly 51 years ago.
The 2010 Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association Hall of Fame Spectacular induction weekend activities will be held Saturday and Sunday, September 4th and 5th, 2010 at Arnolds Park.
