(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association has announced the list of inductees for its 2009 Hall of Fame.
They include Audubon native Bill Fries, known throughout the world as the fictional truck driver who sang on commercials for Old Home bread.
Mary Arnold, widow of country star Roger Miller, another Audubon native, was inducted in the “Women Who Rocked” category. She toured internationally with Kenny Rogers and the First Edition.
Wayne Christgau is being inducted in the Support Staff category for his years of service at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake.
This year’s Out-Of-State inductee is the Minnesota band “Crow” which made the song “Evil Woman” a national hit.
The “Deputy Dawg” band, which originated in Mason City, is also being inducted this year, along with the Melody Mill Ballroom in Dubuque, disc jockey Darrell Winkie of Decorah and KWWL radio in Waterloo.
Inductees from southeast Iowa include bands “The XL’s” from Iowa city, “Morning After” and “Uncle and the Anteaters”.
“The Impacts”, “Lou and Red Berry” and the “Bel-Raves” of Council Bluffs are also on the list, along with Paul Wilson, “Con Brio” and “Genuine John’s” in Ames.
“The Charades” from Marcus, “Natural Color” and Larry Means from Sioux City are also being inducted, along with “The Surfinks” from Jewell, Lyle Steece of Spencer and the Lakewood Ballroom at Lakeview.
Dan Martousek Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to Ralph Gatton of Whatcheer, Dale Black of Fort Dodge and Dick Matousek of Sioux City.
The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association’s 2009 Hall of Fame Induction Spectacular will be held September 5th and 6th at the Roof Garden in Arnolds Park.
