(Arnolds Park)-A couple of special concerts are on tap this week. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association will hold their annual Hall of Fame Induction Spectacular on Labor Day Weekend.
Executive Director Clay Norris says, they’ve added a couple concerts leading up to the festival this year, including a special Rock the Roof on Thursday night. ‘”Mr. V’s 50s and 60s All Star Band, and you might say, who’s that? Well, it is a collection of 6 of our Hall of Fame Inductees, Ron Smith, Vance Jorgensen, Jerry Jones is in it, Becky Thoreson and Dean Davis, but the big name that is a new Inductee of ours is Jimmy Ryan, and Jimmy Ryan is the person that played in Carly Simon’s band.”
He adds that Out of State Inductee 1964 The Tribute will perform Friday night at The Roof Garden Ballroom. “Rolling Stone Magazine has said that they are The Best Beatles Tribute on Earth, and, I mean, they’ve played Shea Stadium, they’ve played Red Rocks, they’ve played Carnegie Hall. They really recreate the sound and the focus is the early Beatles, so, from 1964 until the Sgt. Pepper era.”
The Induction Spectacular Weekend will officially get underway with The Opening Ceremony Saturday morning.
