(Okoboji)-A special concert is on tap Thursday night at the Pearson Lakes Art Center. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association will present a Rock the Campus Concert at Pearson Lakes Art Center on Thursday evening, featuring the group River – The Music of Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon.
Singer and Producer Deb Brown says the 9 piece band is comprised of top musicians from the Twin Cities area. “The musicians we have, I can’t say enough about them. First of all, Jana Anderson, who many people know has toured with mega stars like Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks and Don Henley. We have Noah Levy on drums who has played with Five for Fighting, he’s Brian Setzer’s drummer and with Soul Asylum. They’re just absolutely fabulous.”
Singer Jana Anderson says she loves singing the classic songs. “I think for a singer, the music, especially of that era, because they didn’t have all of the electronics to change your voice, and I think that they had to be great. The songs had to be interesting and really musical because there weren’t all the tools that we have for modern times. And, you know, as much as the melodies, the arrangements and the production and the musicianship are so phenomenal.”
River will take the stage in the Lauridsen Performing Arts Theatre at the Pearson Lakes Art Center Thursday night at 7:30.
