Iowa Lakes R C & D Awarded Scenic Byway Grant

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The Iowa Lakes Resource Conservation and Development has been awarded a National Scenic Byway Grant.

Officials say the $61,680 will be used to complete a Corridor Management Plan for the Glacial Trail Scenic Byway. The total project has an estimated cost of $77,000. The 36-mile loop passes through Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay and O’Brien counties.

The plan will identify resources that draw visitors to the area, develop strategies to enhance and protect them, will incorporate larger transportation and community planning efforts that improve mobility within and among the communities through which the byway passes, and increase the livability of those communities.

Planners will work with the byway council, community leaders and residents.

The Glacial Trail Scenic Byway was designated an Iowa State Scenic Byway in 1998.
