(Spencer)– The past year was another busy one for the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, which held its annual meeting Monday in Spencer.
According to statistics presented at the meeting, 35 projects or prospects were generated; 11 new businesses were started in the region, with 279 new primary jobs being committed. In addition, they say 253 jobs were retained, eight schools and 153 students were involved in entrepreneurial training and $7.27 million was received in federal and state funding for various projects.
The 2011 Chairman’s Award was presented to the teachers and volunteers of the Junior Achievement pilot programs in the Newell-Fonda and Clay Central Everly elementary schools.
The Corridor also recognized Steve Grell of Community State Bank for his six years of service on the Corridor Board of Directors. His term on the board expires July 1st.
Filling the vacancy will be Dave Woodcock, President and CEO of Farmer’s Trust and Savings Bank. Woodcock is currently President of the Spencer Industries Foundation and Spencer Area Jobs Trust.
