Iowa Lakes Community College to host Heartland Honor Choir October 20

October 19, 2022 Becky Thoreson

(Estherville)-Nearly 200 area students will participate in the Heartland Honor Choir at Iowa Lakes Community College on Thursday. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

(Estherville)-The Iowa Lakes Community College Music Department will host area High School choirs for the 8th Annual Heartland Honor Choir on Thursday.

Vocal Music Professor Brett Fuelberth says, the students will spend the day on the Estherville Campus. “We have 10 high schools bringing singers in, so we’ll have a choir that will end up being over 180, I think, total students in it, which is pretty incredible. They arrive on campus in the morning, spend the day with the clinician that we bring in. We’ve got choirs from Spirit Lake, Pocahontas, South O’Brien, North Union, GTRA. Alta-Aurelia is going to be here, ELC, Estherville Lincoln Central, Newell-Fonda, Okoboji and Algona are all bringing local students to come and sing.”

He adds that a guest conductor will lead the students. “His name is Cornelius, or he goes by Corky, Koerselman. He taught for many years in Northwest Iowa and now he’s at Northwestern College. He’s chosen some great music for the concert, and he really does such a nice job working with students.”

The Choir will perform at 6 o’clock Thursday evening at The Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center. Admission is $5.
