(Estherville)-There are several concerts on tap this week with the annual Jazz Camp at Iowa Lakes. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Iowa Lakes Community College Music Department is hosting the 43rd Annual Reggie Shive Jazz Camp this week.
Instrumental Music Professor Carol Ayres says, professional musicians known as The Headliners are back to assist students. “Andy Hall, the incredible bass player who plays with Marilyn Maye every year and Joey Gulizia, the fabulous drummer from Omaha, Nebraska; Steve Smith, incredible piano player; Rod Fleeman, jazz guitarist from Kansas City. We have CJ Kocher from Vermillion, South Dakota; MIchael Gurciullo, trumpet player who worked with Wayne Newton, and then we have Dan Cassady on trombone, and so we have this incredible group of Headliners coming to play for you.”
She notes that several concerts are on tap this week. “On Monday, we’re having a concert at The Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center Lobby. Tuesday we are on the Queen, and then Wednesday night we have a big band. Then, on Thursday at 3:30, we have our Camper Concert. It’s the combo concert, the small groups, and then at 6:30 the campers will be performing their big band concert, and then as soon as that’s over, we start The Headliners at Little Swan Lake.”
