Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School Proceeds With Plans For Building Project

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)—The Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School and First English Lutheran Church of Spencer are moving ahead with plans to build a new school on the church’s campus.

Project supporters site the findings of surveys completed in 2008 and 2011. They say it points to the need and desire by respondents for amenities such as a gymnasium, larger classrooms, media center, computer and science lab space and the possibility for additional classrooms in the future. They say 83 percent of respondents to the 2008 survey were in favor of building a new school. They say that desire was reflected in another survey conducted in 2011.

They also say the need is based on increased enrollment since the school was formed in early 1999.

A building committee was established early last year, and an architect was hired in May of last year. A fundraising committee was formed last fall.

A fundraising dinner will be held Sunday, February 24th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Clay County Regional Events Center. Those interested in attending should RSVP by contacting Scott Hallgren at (712) 580-3000.

A groundbreaking is planned for late this year or early next year in the event the needed funds are raised.
