Iowa Great Lakes Chamber receives Mid-America Chamber Executives Award for Winter Games

(Arnolds Park)-The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce has received an award from the Mid-America Chamber Executives.

Iowa Great Lakes Chamber CEO Blain Andera explains that the honor was awarded for Event of the Year. “The Mid-America Chamber Execs is a network of chamber executives from six Midwestern states, and every year they have a conference in Sioux Falls in May, and we were nominated for the Event of the Year for the University of Okoboji Winter Games. The Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce was selected as the winner of the Event of the Year. I think the criteria that they really selected is what it does for a local economy and the businesses and the community in the off-season, and they were really impressed with that. So, it was a great surprise and quite an honor to be chosen out of a six-state region to be able to host the event of the year this year.”

He notes that planning for the next Winter Games is already underway. “It doesn’t happen by accident. We are already meeting for Winter Games 2023. The logo is in the process of being completed and the Chair and Co-Chair have been selected. That hasn’t been announced yet, but that will be coming out soon. So, it’s a year-round process of planning the Winter Games, and again, it doesn’t just happen overnight or by accident, and we’re super excited to have received the award for Event of the Year for our Winter Games.”

Andera also noted that it takes many employees, volunteers and sponsors to put on an event of that magnitude. The University of Okoboji Winter Games draws tens of thousands of people to the Iowa Great Lakes in January each year.
