Iowa DNR To Release Trout At 10 Different Sites In February, Including One Locally

December 22, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be stocking rainbow trout in 10 locations in Iowa this winter in areas that would not support them during warmer months. Locally, rainbow trout will be released at Scharnberg Pond in Spencer at 12 Noon February 10th.

The popular program is funded by revenue generated by the trout fee.

Anglers need a valid fishing license and must pay the trout fee to fish or possess trout. Children 15 or younger can fish for trout with a properly licensed adult but must limit their catch to one daily limit. They can purchase a trout fee which will allow them to catch their own limit. The daily limit is five trout per licensed angler with a possession limit of 10.
