(Undated)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will once again this spring conduct a series of prescribed burns at a number of locations in Dickinson, Lyon, O’Brien and Sioux counties. The burns will be conducted between March 1st and May 20th.
The locations in Dickinson county include Spring Run, Cayler Prairie, Center Lake, Christopherson Slough, Diamond Lake, Dugout Creek, Garlock Slough, Hales Slough, and Jemmerson Slough, as well as the Kettleson Hogsback, Welch Lake and West Okoboji complexes.
Scheduled areas in O’Brien county include the Waterman Prairie Wildlife Complex north of Highway 10, five miles west of Peterson and four miles east of Sutherland.
Some areas along the Big Sioux River complex in Lyon and Sioux counties may also see prescribed fire.
DNR officials say the prescribed burns improve wildlife habitat, control invasive plant species and help maintain native plants.
