(Undated)– Some pothole relief is on the way. The Iowa Department of Transportation is doubling its budget due to the increased pavement damage. The D.O.T approved an additional $15 million to its $18 million budget.
Officials say roads have experienced more potholes than normal due to the severity of the winter. Greater amounts of precipitation have caused moisture to seep into cracks and crevices in roads. That moisture then freezes and expands with temperature changes, causing the pavement in those areas to pop out.
