Iowa Ag Secretary: Opportunities Abound For Young People Looking To Get Into Ag Even With Market Uncertainties

July 21, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– While there is a lot of uncertainty right now when it comes to agricultural markets, it remains a good time for young people looking to get involved in the industry. That’s the message from Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig…

“Here we are in one of the most productive places in the world. You look at the demand for food and ag products around the world and demand has never been greater. And so you think, well this is important, this is meaningful work. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world confronting those challenges than right here in Iowa. And I also think, yes, agriculture is all about innovation and all about change and trying to deal with the challenges that are before us and I always try to boil it down to thinking that in the end of all this what we do in ag is we’re supplying food and ag products to a consumer and that consumer is here, right here in Dickinson county and in Iowa, and it’s also the consumer around the world, and that work’s never been more important. So there’s all kinds of opportunities for our young people.”

Naig made the comment during a stop earlier this week at the Dickinson County Fair.
