Investigation Underway Into Fire That Destroyed A Building In Spirit Lake

May 14, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Firefighters remain on the scene of a fire this (Tues.) morning at Great Lakes Marine on Highways 9 and 71 in Spirit Lake. Spirit Lake Fire Chief Pat Daly tells KUOO news they were called to that location around 3:15 am…

“A passerby seen the building on fire. When we got on the scene we had fire and smoke showing from the rear of the building.”

Daly says firefighters remain on the scene at this hour (as of 8:00 am)…

“The building is pretty much gone. We did have help in from, we paged out Superior and Arnolds Park-Okoboji for help. Right now we’re waiting for an excavator to get here. We’re going to take the roof off the back and see if we can figure out where it started.”

He says the fire was in a building used for detailing boats…

“There was several boats in there. They had a bunch of that and a bunch of fuel in there, so it made a little tough there for a little while.”

Daly says they were able to contain the fire to the one building. No injuries have been reported.

The State Fire Marshal is on the scene as an investigation into a possible cause gets underway.
