(Spencer)– A former City Manager of Spencer is returning to serve in another position with the city on an interim basis. The City Council Monday approved hiring Bob Fagan as the city’s interim Finance Director for up to eight weeks. Brian Weuve, the city’s current Finance Director, is stepping down soon to take a job with another city. City Manager Dan Gifford told the council Fagan was a natural choice…
“Bob is a former city manager here in Spencer. He did a lot of the financial work and so he still remembers some of this. He’s coming on for eight weeks time with a couple of days a week on site and working the rest of the time remotely from his home office. It should help us get over the hump until we can get a little farther down the road in the very tough job of hiring Brian’s replacement.”
Mayor Steve Bomgaars says it was vital the city get someone in the position as quickly as possible…
“We felt that we needed to get somebody in that chair in the interim because the finances of a city the size of Spencer are pretty complex. We almost simultaneously actually mentioned Bob’s name as somebody that we might want to contact. Bob is retired. He did serve earlier this summer as the interim City Manager in Marshalltown for about five or six weeks.”
Meanwhile the search for a new full-time Finance Director is actively underway.
