(Spirit Lake)– The timeframe for the latest winter storm to impact the region is being pushed back somewhat. A winter storm warning goes into affect at 3:00 pm today (Wed.) and will continue until 9:00 am Thursday.
Forecasters say snow won’t start until mid to late afternoon, with the heaviest snow falling tonight (Wed.) into early Thursday. Snowfall rates overnight could be in the range of one to three inches per hour in some locations.
Five to nine inches of snow can be expected locally in the Iowa Great Lakes, with amounts tapering off to the north. Snowfall along a line from Sioux City to Storm Lake could exceed a foot in places.
A gusty wind will accompany the new snowfall, making for poor visibility in blowing and drifting snow, especially while the heaviest snowfall is occurring.
