Illinois Man Sentenced On Federal Firearms Charge In A Case Out Of NW Iowa

March 13, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux City)– An Illinois man has been sentenced on a federal firearms charge in a case out of northwest Iowa. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 28-year-old Marcus Fair of Dolton, Illinois, was sentenced Wednesday to 57 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

The charge stems from a domestic disturbance and animal cruelty investigation in Humboldt in September of 2022. Officers found a backpack and items belonging to Fair including a loaded pistol with an obliterated serial number, an extended magazine and marijuana. Prosecutors say Fair was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior drug conviction.
