A Fostoria man is behind bars after charging thousands of dollars in gas using a false identity. The Clay County Sheriff’s Department says 39-year old Matthew Simons racked up more than $2,000 in gas at a Spencer gas station illegally.
The police report says Simons visited the station more than 60 times from January 2010 through February 2011, and used another person’s identity to pay for the fuel through a business charge account without consent.
Simons was first picked up by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office before being turned over to Clay County authorities. He has been charged with second-degree theft and three counts of forgery, both are Class D felonies. Simons is currently in custody awaiting a court date.
