(Estherville)—Iowa Lakes Community College has received accreditation through the American Veterinary Medical Association for its Veterinary Technician program. The accreditation was approved by the association’s Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities. The program at Iowa Lakes went through a thorough self-evaluation and site visit by a team of experts in February. The facilities had to meet specific climate and animal health regulations in order for approval.
College officials say the provisional accreditation was the next step for the program, which started in the fall of 2011. The first students graduated this spring and will now take the state and national certification exams this summer.
The next visit by the accreditation team will be in five years.
