(Estherville)– The board of trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College voted Tuesday to expand a program offering at the Algona campus to proceed with adding one at the Spirit Lake campus.
The Massage Therapy program currently offered at the Spencer campus is being expanded to include evening and weekend sessions at the Algona campus, with the daytime offerings staying at the Spencer campus. The expansion received approval from the Iowa Department of Education and the Board of Examiners of Massage Therapy.
Trustess also Tuesday authorized staff to begin the approval process for an Event Planning program to be offered at the Spirit Lake campus. College officials have been working about a year on an advisory committee on developing curriculum for the program, which would offer an Associate in Applied Science or Associate in Arts Degree upon completion. Possible course additions could include Fundamentals of Event Planning, Business Communications, Office Procedures, Wedding Planning, Catering, Business Law, Fundraising Events and Principles of Marketing. It would also offer students on-the-job experience along with planning and executing a hypothetical event.
College officials hope the program could start in January of 2013.
