(Algona)– The board of trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College held their regular monthly meeting Tuesday at the Algona campus.
Trustees approved a change in the nursing program curriculum, making practical nursing and the associate degree nursing programs stand-alone programs. The change will take effect in the fall of 2010. College officials say the change will allow the nursing program to apply for accreditation through the National League of Nursing Accreditation and will allow for better preparation of students when taking state board exams and maximizes the use of clinical facilities.
Trustees also approved resignations of three staff members at Tuesday’s meeting. They include Trudy Kattner, Dean of the Algona campus; Mary Mohni, Chief Academic Officer and Rachel Poncelet, counselor.
Trustees also passed a motion to receive and file the recommendation for termination of an instructor, in accordance with the Code of Iowa. A news release issued by the college didn’t give details.
In other business, ILCC trustees approved a five-year cooperative agreement with the city of Emmetsburg for operating the pool at the Smith Wellness Center. Terms call for the city to pay the college 41-thousand dollars for the 2010 fiscal year with a one thousand dollar increase each year through fiscal year 2014.
