(Estherville)– Iowa Lakes Community College Monday announced plans to resume its baseball season beginning this Friday, March 13th, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis with a game against Minnesota North College-Mesabi Range.
In a press release, ILCC officials say the decision to resume the season comes after “thoughtful conversations among student-athletes, coaches and college leadership as the team continues to process and heal following the recent bus accident involving the Iowa Lakes baseball program.” That crash claimed the life of Carter Johnson.
In the release, Troy Larson, Vice President of Student Services at Iowa Lakes, said “returning to the field is not about moving on, but about moving forward together.” He went on to say “Baseball has always been a place where this team finds connection, purpose and support from one another and the broader community.”
Head Baseball Coach Chris Witzke added the decision to continue the season was made with the well-being of the players at the center.
