(Estherville)– The President of Iowa Lakes Community College is serving on the Iowa Power Fund Board.
Valerie Newhouse has been serving on the board since July 1st of this year.
The Power Fund Board is part of the Iowa Office of Energy Independence.
Newhouse was selected as the lone representative for the Iowa Association of Community College Presidents.
The board consists of 18 members; seven voting members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate; four state agency directors and seven ex-officio non-voting members.
Newhouse’s primary responsibility is to remind those with specific requests of the Power Fund Board of the training opportunities available through Iowa community colleges.
She also assists the board with questions, opinions and dialogue as it makes decisions affecting business expansion, educational requests, and private requests for funding through the Iowa Office of Energy Independence.
The future of the Iowa Power Fund is somewhat clouded, though. Governor-Elect Terry Branstad says he plans to re-evaluate the operation once he takes office.
