(Spencer)– Several laid off workers in the area have gained new skills thanks to a cooperative program of Iowa Lakes Community College and the Northwest Iowa Planning and Development Commission.
The Administrative Assistant Basics Class is once again being offered to the public. Those who would like to know more about the options availabe through the program are urged to attend one of several “Returning to Learning” session. One of those will be held today (Thurs. 7/23) from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Spencer campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
Another session will be held Tuesday, July 28th from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Estherville campus; a session will also be held Wednesday, August 5th from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Emmetsburg campus; and a special meeting regarding the program will be held Tuesday, August 11th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Algona campus.
Barb Grandstaff, Continuing Education Programmer for Iowa Lakes, says the meetings will be tailored to the needs of the individuals who stop in. Grandstaff says during the previous meetings they met with many dislocated workers and about 25 of those who have either started college or will start college in the fall.
She says the partnerships between Iowa Lakes Community College and the Northwest Iowa Planning and Development Commission are essential to helping dislocated workers find a new career path.
