(Estherville)– The Iowa Lakes Community College Music Department is proud to announce the 2024 Jazz Band Contest winners from the event held on January 18 and 19 at the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center. Many local high school bands performed jazz classics throughout the competition.
Two experienced judges, Rod Shedenhelm and Steve Citta, the judges scored the jazz bands based on ensemble playing, rhythm section, style comprehension, solos, improvisation, and programming.
Class 2A Division
First place: West Lyon, directed by Jade Bolin
Second place: Alta-Aurelia, directed by Megan Benz
Third place: Sioux Central, directed by Adam Perry
Class 3A Division
First place: Spirit Lake, directed by Tyler Pedersen
Second place: Denison, directed by Ryan Meyer
Third place: Okoboji, directed by James Kunz
Class 4A Division
First place: Urbandale, directed by David Breese
Second place: Storm Lake, directed by Corbet Butler
Additionally, 121 individual performers won Outstanding Soloist Awards.
