IGL Rotary Club To Distribute Flood Buckets

July 08, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Iowa Great Lakes Rotary Club has assembled flood buckets to assist those cleaning up from the flooding. Club member Kathy Fahy says the project was made possible through various fundraising events…

“We raise funds every year through our Brew Fest that we have in August. We do a mental health walk; we also do the car drop into the lake every year. We raise those funds so that we can give back to the community and this is one way that we could in a small way help with clean up efforts because of all of the flooding.”

Fahy says Ace Hardware was a partner in the project by allowing the club to purchase the items at a significant discount…

“What’s included in each of those buckets is not only the bucket itself, but cleaning products. Laundry detergent, dish soap, regular household cleaning products, soap, as well as scrub brushes, reusable wipes…rags I guess if you will. There also will be insect repellant, air freshener, gloves, garbage bags. Just a variety of things as well as some resource materials in case you do have some extra needs and need some other assistance in other areas. We’ll have some resource materials included in each of those buckets as well.”

Fahy says they’ll be distributing the buckets this Wednesday, July 10th, from 1:00 until 3:00 pm at the parking lot at Ace Hardware in Spirit Lake…

“We’ll have our Rotary tent there so you’ll be able to see us. It will be first-come, first-serve until we hand out 160 buckets. And if for some reason you’re not able to drive there to pick one up and you would really like one and need one, you can feel free to give me a call. My cell is 605-359-7177 and we’ll get on delivered to you.”
