IGL Fishing Club To Hold Annual Kid’s Fishing Seminar May 1st

April 26, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club holds its annual Kid’s Fishing Clinic next week. Club spokesman Dean Jacobsen says it will be held Wednesday, May 1st at Stolley’s pit in Clay county…

“4:30 registration, you don’t need to pre-register. For kids ages 6-14. If kids need supervision we ask that you bring someone along. Those who don’t need supervision who have been fishing on their own are welcome to come on their own as well. The first part of that seminar is of the day, it’s split up into three stations. DNR will be there. They have a fish ID station. They have a great big water tank full of fish and they take the fish out and help the kids identify them and tell them what to look for. They also have a water safety station talking about the things to be aware of on the water, and of course the kid’s favorite station is the fish cleaning station. Tim Hilbert runs that station for us and does a great job. After those educational stations we send them out to fish for an hour from 6:00 to 7:00. There’s a big fish contest. Whoever catches the big fish for that afternoon gets a half day guided fishing trip up at the Iowa Great Lakes, them and a parent or any adult. After that we feed them a hot dog and chips meal and give them an ice cream bar and send them home with a tackle box and some tackle.”

Jacobsen expressed the club’s thanks to Pure Fishing and Fisherman’s Factory Outlet for donating the prizes.

The Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club will also be playing an active role with Walleye Weekend again this year. We’ll have details on that Monday.
