(Spirit Lake)– An initiative that encourages those venturing out onto the ice on area lakes to clean up after themselves appears to be gaining some traction. Terry Thompson of the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club says initial indications are showing the “Keep it Clean” program is having an impact…
“I think it’s gone over very well. The three lakes associations have really gotten onboard with that and the program’s got a lot of interest in it. Having been on the ice, I can say that I do think it is much cleaner than in past years, so apparently that Keep It Clean program is helping.”
It’s just one of a multitude of programs the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club is involved in. Thompson says they have a number of events coming up this spring geared toward youth…
“Every kid that participates this year is going to get a rod and reel combo. Last year we did 900 tackle boxes and so far we’ve ordered a thousand rod and reel combo’s for our kids events this year. Please take advantage of that. Get your kids interested and bring them to our events.”
