November 22, 2014

(Worthington, Mn.)– A two-vehicle collision Saturday evening on Interstate 90 just west of Worthington claimed the life of a child and left two others, including an infant, in critical condition.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 30-year-old James Fisher of Luverne was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger westbound when he lost control. The vehicle went through the median into the eastbound lanes where it was broadsided by a 2012 Nissan driven by 44-year-old Kevin Bakker of Spirit Lake.

Fisher was taken to Sanford Hospital in Worthington where he was treated and released. A six-year-old child who was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Bakker, Jonah Holmes of Spirit Lake, was taken to Sanford Hospital in Worthington. Jonah was transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital where he died.

Bakker and one-year-old Fisher Bakker, another passenger in the vehicle, were taken to Sanford Hospital in Worthington where they were listed in critical condition, along with 27-year-old Michelle Holmes, also of Spirit Lake.

Both vehicles were totaled.

The crash took place shortly after 6:30 p.m.

The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted by the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office and the Worthington Police Department.
