I90 Collision Of Two Semis And S-U-V Kills Two

November 22, 2014

(Luverne, Mn.)– Two people were killed in a crash Tuesday on Interstate 90 about five miles east of Luverne involving two semis and an S-U-V.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 24-year-old Rocio Dominguez of Worthington was driving a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo westbound when he lost control on the ice-covered road. The vehicle skidded across the median and into the eastbound lanes where it struck the the trailer axles of a semi driven by 51-year-old Larry Briles of Hastings, Minnesota. The S-U-V became disabled on the road, while the semi Briles was driving overturned on the right shoulder. At that point, troopers say another semi came upon the scene and struck the S-U-V again, sending it into the median. The second semi, driven by 55-year-old John Eich of Des Moines, then jackknifed into the trailer of the first semi.

Both Dominguez and a passenger, 54-year-old Olga Diaz Dominguez of Worthington, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the semis were taken to the Luverne hospital where they were treated and released.

The Isuzu driven by Dominguez was totaled; severe damage was reported to a 2007 Peterbilt driven by Briles and to a 2001 Volvo driven by Eich.

The crash took place shortly after 6:30 a.m.

The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash resulted in the eastbound lanes of I90 being closed in that area for some 6 1/2 hours Tuesday.
