(Albert Lea, Mn.)– A single-vehicle rollover over the weekend in southeast Minnesota injured a Spencer resident, who was one of 10 passengers in the vehicle, one of which was killed.
The Minnesota State Patrol says 25-year-old Alex Urbano of Norcross, Georgia was driving a 2004 Ford Econoline van westbound on Interstate 90 near Albert Lea, Minnesota when he lost control on the ice-covered road. The van went sideways into the median, where it rolled several times.
One of the passengers, 37-year-old Oscar Altamirano-Pavon, address unkown, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Urbano, along with 34-year-old Mora Simon of Spencer and 8 other passengers in the van whose hometowns weren’t available, were all taken to an Albert Lea hospital. 38-year-old Virginia Pena-Flores was listed in critical condition; all the others, identified as 34-year-old Mauro Jimenez, 20-year-old Hugo Altanirano-Pavon, 31-year-old Roberto Gonzalez, 23-year-old Raul Lagunes, 41-year-old Javier Hernandez, 38-year-old Ernesto Morales and 34-year-old Dora Maria were all treated for what was described as non-life threatening injuries.
The vehicle was totaled.
The crash took place around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
