(Spirit Lake)– A two-vehicle collision Monday on Highway 86 near the Iowa/Minnesota border sent one person to the hospital.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 79-year-old Phyllis Schomaker of Lakefield was driving a 1994 Dodge Ram pickup northbound when she collided with a parked 2008 Chevrolet pickup owned by the Osceola Rural Water System. Deputies say the driver of that vehicle, which had its emergency flashers going, was outside of the vehicle investigating a water leak.
The impact of the crash pushed the rural water truck into the ditch.
Schomaker was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake with non-incapacitating injuries.
$12,000 in damage was estimated to the Chevy pickup owned by Osceola Rural Water System; the Dodge pickup driven by Schomaker sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage.
The collision took place around 1:45 p.m.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and paramedics; the Spirit Lake First Responders and Jennings Tow and Repair.
