Hwy 18 Crash Claims Life Of Sheldon Teen

November 22, 2014

(Sheldon)– A collision involving a car and a semi on Highway 18 near Sheldon has claimed the life of a teenager.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 36-year-old Mark Breuer of Rock Valley was driving a 2003 Freightliner semi tractor pulling a loaded graing trailer eastbound and 17-year-old Trisha Wood of Sheldon was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile westbound. Authorities say Wood lost control, resulting in her vehicle going into the eastbound lane where it collided with the oncoming semi.

Wood was pronounced dead at the scene; no injuries were reported to Breuer.

Authorities say Wood was wearing a seatbelt; Breuer was not.

Major damage was reported to the car driven by Wood; the truck sustained an estimated $25,000 in damage.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Sheldon Police Department, the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Sheldon Fire Department and the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.

The collision took place around 7:15 a.m. Friday.
