November 22, 2014

(Hartley)—The Iowa State Patrol has released details into a two-vehicle collision last week three miles east of Hartley on Highway 18 that sent two people to the hospital.

Troopers say 16-year-old Calvin Mingus of Spencer was driving a 1998 Dodge eastbound when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a westbound 2012 Dodge caravan driven by 60-year-old Glen Mouw of Sioux Center.

Mingus had to be extricated from the wreckage. He was transported by ambulance to Spencer Hospital; Mouw was taken to the Sheldon hospital. Both sustained incapacitating injuries.

$2,500 in damage was estimated to the vehicle driven by Mingus; $16,500 in damage was estimated to the one driven by Mouw.
