November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– There’s a lot of celebrating going on today (Friday, June 15th) as one of Spirit Lake’s largest employers, Pure Fishing, observes the 75th anniversary of one of its brands, Berkley. The company founder himself, Berkley Bedell, was one of the guests on Friday’s “Get Up And Go Show”. He told us it all got started when he was just a teen with $50, his parent’s car and some traveling he did to market his handmade leaders…(click here for comment from Bedell.)

Bedell says the fact that 75 years later the company would grow to what it has came as no accident…(click here for comment from Bedell.)

Pure Fishing CEO John Doerr says now the company has gone global, with offices in 24 countries…(click here for comment from Doerr.)

And as far as the Spirit Lake plant is concerned, Doerr says it will continue to play a critical role in the company’s future…(click here for comment from Doerr.)

Scores of retirees took advantage of plant tours in the morning Friday (6/15). Hundreds turned out for tours that were open to the general public in the afternoon.
