Humane Society Of NW Iowa Feeling The Pinch Of Decreased Donations

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– One local organization is especially feeling the effects of decreased donations due to the poor economy.

Kate Whitrock of the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa says they’ve been hard hit over a decline in donations over the last two years. As a result, she says they’ve had to dip into their reserves, which are starting to dwindle.

Whitrock says unless things change soon, they may be forced to make some difficult decisions, such as decreasing the hours the shelter is open and cutting back on some programs. But she says that would be a very last resort.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution may do so by sending it to the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa; 607 28th Street; Milford, Iowa…51351.

A pancake feed and quilt auction fundraiser for the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa will be held this Sunday, Nov. 15th, from 9:00 a.m. until 12 Noon at the Milford Community Building. Cost is five dollars per person. The auction will start at 12:30 p.m.

Whitrock was at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting, requesting Dickinson county contribute one thousand dollars a month, preferably over the next two years, to the organization. The supervisors will take up the matter when they start working on the upcoming fiscal year’s budget.
