(Estherville)– Area home and business owners are being reminded to be on the lookout for repair scams.
The Estherville Police Department says it recently received a report of an elderly person being taken advantage of by a group of individuals trimming trees. They say the workers charged a higher than normal amount for the work that was done.
They say that’s just one of many reports they’ve received from people who have been scammed recently. Other operations involve sub-par painting of buildings and driveway work that’s below standards.
That’s in addition to all the scams making the rounds on the telephone and internet.
Authorities say it points out the importance of doing business with someone you know.
And when it comes to the phone and internet scams, police have a simple reminder: there’s no such thing as free money.
Estherville police say most of the scam reports they’ve been getting target the elderly.
